Odessa Boat Show
Friday 11th April, 2008.

The charity received a very generous offer to participate in the ‘Odessa Boat Show' for one day, free of charge, on Friday 11 th April 2008 . This gave the charity a great opportunity to present itself to some of the business community of Odessa and was something not to be missed.

Our target was to reach out to this segment of the business community of Odessa with a view to attracting new support for the charity. The corruption found in Ukraine results in a mistrust of charitable organisations such as ours. Potential sponsors need to see the work the charity conducts first hand and indeed talk to some of the children that the charity strives to help. To this end, a plan of action was drawn up by Kateryna Trukhanova (the charity manager) and Alper Gergin (a charity volunteer from Turkey ).

Help for the event was requested from a fellow charity, the ‘Heritage Fund' who loaned to use various pieces of equipment plus (very much appreciated) physical labour to set up our stand on the day!

Alpar, who volunteers his time on behalf of the charity and undertaking painting lessons each Saturday at Victoria Summer camp, arranged for his students to come along to the event to give possible benefactors an opportunity to meet some of the children the charity is trying to help.

Charity volunteers, Victoria and Polina hand out charity pamphlets to visitors to the boat show.
The pamphlets, designed by Kateryna, were extremely well received and encouraged many people to come forward to ask about the work of the charity
Slavik from the Heritage Fund together with Kateryna constructed a display of photographs which showed some of the children and their current living conditions
Cakes and soft drinks were handed out to people that chose to make a small donation into the ‘charity fund box'. This proved to be a great success and allowed Kateryna time to talk about the charity with interested persons. Over 700hrv was collected on the day (about $125).
The children spent the day working on their paintings and talking to interested people. All were extremely well behaved and a credit to their school, boarding school number 5. Here Kateryna talks with the children, together with a school teacher who spent the day with us.
Here some of the children are working on frames for their paintings. Eight children in total came to the event including Oksana, Margarita, Nastya, Liza, Valya, Tania, Elena and Oksana
