This institution contains children with varying degrees of mental illness. Some could (and eventually are) placed in mainstream schools. For some though this is never going to be a possibility.

State ‘red tape' passed down from the old Soviet system is still prevalent in many aspects of life in Ukraine . The diagnosis of a child being classified as mentally ill is a good example. Being classified as mentally ill can include all groups from slow learners to those with severe mental deficiencies.
Unfortunately once a child has been diagnosed as being mentally ill it is very difficult to get the ‘label' removed. Only when their status has been changed can progression to a mainstream school take place.

There is a mixture of day students and boarding students at this school. The majority live on the premises and return home at weekends.

The school does however benefit from a particularly active and dedicated Director who regularly performs small miracles in the smooth operation of his school. All washing is neatly piled and folded. The kitchen is spotless and is clearly well managed.

The Director of this institution is particularly dedicated to his work and has been successful in obtaining sponsorship from a number of outside organisations. We are confident that any investment made in this institution will be well received and put to effective use.

It is a great credit to the Director and his team that such high standards are maintained under such adverse conditions
